Sometimes it's just not practical to pop in to get a Spray tan. Doll face also offers at home tanning products. These are especially good if you prefer to tan in the comfort of your own home. Or if you need to top up your tan.
For a tan that develops in 2-6 hours (leave on for up to 6 hours for a deeper tan) Doll Face offers the Violet based Tanning Foam. This amazing foam is in a Violet based solution. Violet will keep ALL of the orange tones away! Goes on smooth and not too sticky. Apply with the tanning mit.
Upsides of tanning at home: You can double or triple coat the areas you wish. Apply whenever you like, easy to do top ups.
Downside of tanning at home: It's hard to reach your back, can sometimes go streaky if your new to it, can over tan your hands, can be messy.
Either way, it is always a good idea to have a bottle of Doll Face Tanning Foam handy in case you do need to do a quick tan on those legs!
Our other holy grail tanning product is the Doll face Gradual Tan Lotion. This body moisturizer contains a tiny amount of DHA. So every time you apply, you are slowly building a natural tan. You can choose to build slow, or apply twice a day to build faster. The Gradual tanning Lotion is also a great way to keep your natural or spray tan topped up while moisturising at the same time!
Be sure to wash your hands after each application!
Can I tan while I'm Pregnant? How do I know I if I am allergic?
Many questions surround people before there first spray tan. In this post I will share some common FAQ's and put your mind at ease. If you do have ANY concerns, please contact us and we can help you as best we can.
CAN I GET A SPRAY TAN WHILE I AM PREGNANT?
Yes! You totally can! The tan solution is non toxic. It will not harm you or the baby while pregnant. We can suggest however to minimise the over spray from being inhaled, to wear a nose plug while tanning is in progress. This is not necessary, but you may prefer it.
CAN I TAN WHILE BREASTFEEDING?
Yes! We strongly suggest that you cover your breasts and nipples during the tan. And refrain from feeding until you have showered and rinsed the tan from your skin.
HOW WILL I KNOw IF I AM ALLERGIC TO THE TAN?
Allergies can happen with any product you apply to your skin. It is highly advisable if you have sensitive skin to request a "Patch Test" 48 hours before your tan. The tanning expert will spray a small section behind your knees and or your back to test the solution first. A reaction may occur immediately or upto 24 hours after your patch test. The reaction may present itself in the way of Hives (itchy welt looking spots), redness, itchy, or blisters. If this occurs we strongly recommend you do not use any product that contains DHA.
WHAT DO I WEAR DURING A SPRAY TAN?
We suggest your wear (or not wear) what you will feel comfortable in. It is a scary thought to stand in front of a stranger almost naked! For the best tan results it is suggested that you have your hair tied up and in a hair net (especially if you are blonde) and a disposable G-String which is provided. A lot of people also wear their own underwear. Just be mindful that if you are going to the beach that your tanning underwear will not leave tan lines visible when in togs! It is very common for people to be naked during their tan also. So don't be shy! We have seen hundreds of boobs and every set is beautiful!
HOW LONG WILL MY SPRAY TAN LAST?
You can expect your tan to last approximately 5-10 days. This is largely dependant on what your activities are during this time. For example, if you are swimming during this time, the tan will wear off quicker than if you were doing normal everyday things. You can keep your tan looking topped up using the Doll Face Tan Extender lotion. By applying this lotion everyday it will build up your tan and keep it looking fresh! It can also be used alone to gradually build a sun kissed look.

For the very best looking spray tan result, it is important to follow the correct prep steps before and after your Tan.
First, make sure you have washed your hair (if it needs washing in the next 1-2 days). You don’t want to be washing your hair in the same rinse off session after your tan. This may cause streaks down your back and legs.
Helpful hint: If you use a high silicone Conditioner, ensure you wash your back and legs well with soap after your have rinsed your hair. The Silicone can leave a film on your skin, and this film will prevent the tan from working - meaning streaky lines.
Hair Removal! You don't want to be shaving or waxing after your tan. As the tan is on the superficial layers of your skin, shaving will removal a layer of tan as well as your hair. Waxing should be done 24 hours prior to your tan appointment. The pores in your skin will still be open which will cause the tan solution to sit in them, causing dark spots. Come in with no deodorant or moisturiser on your skin and it's best to remove makeup although not necessary. Finally, remember to bring in loose dark clothing for afterwards. Tight clothes not only will feel awful but may rub against your skin.
Follow this easy instructions and you will walk away with the perfect glowing skin! If you do have any other questions regarding your tanning appointment, please get in touch! We will be more than happy to sort you out.
It would have to be the number one question. “Will I go orange”? Or “I don’t want to be
Have no fear! With today's technology and product research there are not many brands that will give you an orange tan. All spray tan has an ingredient called dihydroxyacetone or DHA for short. This is what gives you a “tanned” effect. The DHA works by a colourless 3-carbon sugar that when applied to the skin causes a chemical reaction with amino acids in the surface cells of the skin producing a darkening effect. DHA does not damage skin as it only affects the outermost cells of the epidermis (stratum corneum).
The formula in which the DHA is used gives various tones/bases. At Doll Face we use 2 bases. One is tinted with Green and the other Violet. These tones are used to counteract any orange tones that may appear during the developing process. We use a Green base if your skin tone is on the pink side, or a violet base if you have more of an olive or yellow undertone. The next step is choosing the solution % of DHA. The higher the % of DHA the darker the tan. The final step is the length of time you leave the solution on for. We tend to use a 2-4 hour develop solution. This way you do not need to sleep in it.
It is important to listen to the instructions your Spray Tan Expert gives you! If you leave a 2-4 hour tan on for longer than advised you have a chance of “Over-Developing” this means you have a high chance of going patchy with a brassy look!
So in short, No you shouldn’t go Orange with the correct Spray Tan solution! If you are unsure, check with your Spray Tan expert on which bases they use. (Violet is my go to)
